AS the second annual Clonakilty Street Carnival, taking place on Saturday June 17th, draws near, the town is preparing to welcome up to 5,000 people to the event.
The West Cork town is ready to accommodate a 20% increase in dinner guests at the carnival, with 20 restaurants set to provide €10 euro adult meals and €5 children’s meals to carnival goers at the street dinner party on Pearse St. Food service will commence at 3pm. Up to 2,500 meal tickets are available to purchase from Kevin O’Regan’s Fuchsia Footwear, Michelle Mitton Gallery, O’Donovan’s Hotel, and Richy’s Bistro.
An official ceremony marking the Best Town in Europe award for Clonakilty, takes place at 2.30pm against the backdrop of the new Clonakilty streetscape.
Kevin O’Regan of the Clonakilty Carnival Committee said the town is in great spirits in the build-up to the carnival next weekend. ‘The Clonakilty Street Carnival is a great opportunity to mark our Best Town in Europe Award attracting more attention to the beautiful West Cork region. We also appreciate that the carnival brings great business to our town, estimated to be worth €1m.”
The Clonakilty Carnival Schedule (Sat 17th):
11am-5pm: Family Fun Zone on Ashe Street; 12-1pm: Live Music by One Voice – Astna Square; 1-2pm: Brass Band, Astna Square; 2.30pm: Official Launch and Best Town in Europe Award Ceremony; 3pm: Street Dinner Party on Pearse Street; 3-5pm: Arts Festival Entertainment, main stage, Pearse Street; Live music outside O’Donovan’s Hotel and De Barras, Pearse Street; 5-6.30pm: ‘She Said’ play main stage.
