CONTRACTS have been signed for a €12.5m housing scheme in Clonakilty.
Cork County Council signed the documents with MMD Construction Cork for the development of 57 homes at Beechgrove which is due to be completed by 2021.
The units will consist of a mix of one, two, three and four bedroom houses.
This project has been brought from detailed design to construction stage by a multidisciplinary team led by the local authority.
County mayor Cllr Christopher O’Sullivan welcomed the project and said: ‘The provision of these, quality, energy efficient homes will go a long way towards addressing housing needs in an area of high demand like Clonakilty.
‘In terms of sustainability, these houses demonstrate best practice in design and will achieve an A-rating on completion.
‘The homes will be highly energy efficient using modern air to water based heating systems which will provide the dual benefits of reducing the carbon footprint of the home as well as taking into account the potential impact of fuel poverty for future tenants.’
Chief executive of Cork County Council, Tim Lucey, added: ‘Our continuing commitment to meeting housing needs through the Social Housing Capital Programme will see 727 homes made available this year and over 3,000 social houses provided in the period 2018- 2021 throughout the county.’
