Dunmanway Chamber of Commerce hosted a lovely evening on Saturday last at the Parkway Hotel on behalf of the Sam Maguire 90th Anniversary Committee

DUNMANWAY Chamber of Commerce hosted a lovely evening on Saturday last at the Parkway Hotel on behalf of the Sam Maguire 90th Anniversary Committee, which was set up to celebrate the famous cup. The celebration marked the end of a nine-month schedule, which sought to promote Sam Maguire, the man who inspired the creation of the cup.

Deirdre Kelly welcomed everyone and called on RTE’s sports commentator Jacqui Hurley, who was the special guest. Jacqui spoke of how honoured she was to be present at such an event given her family connections with the town.

Reverend Cliff Jeffers outlined the events that had taken place over the course of the last nine months, including a documentary about Sam Maguire, which was produced by local man, Brendan Hayes and a feature in relation to Sam Maguire, which was broadcast by RTE’s ‘Nationwide.’ Rev’d Cliff stated that this was the first year of a very exciting time ahead.

After the formalities of the evening were concluded, the Chamber of Commerce and Sam Maguire Committee presented Melissa Duggan of the Cork senior ladies’ football team with a little memento after a year that has seen her earn an All-Star nomination.
