A brief, but poignant, election of a new vice-chairperson of the West Cork Municipal District took place on Monday following the untimely passing of Patrick Gerard Murphy on Friday September 12th.
The chairperson, Cllr Caroline Cronin (FG) called for the nominations to fill the vacancy created by the demise of ‘our dear friend’ at their monthly meeting.
Cllr Deirdre Kelly (FF) proposed Cllr Joe Carroll and Cllr Cronin seconded the nomination.

Cllr Carroll, who was a friend of the Beara-based councillor, said it was important to him that he honour the memory of Patrick Gerard.
