LEARNING how to be brave and making small but consistent changes was a message delivered at the Network Ireland West Cork January event.

Entitled ‘Be Fearless,’ guest speaker Susan Steele, chair of the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority told the crowd of 120 women at Inchydoney Lodge and Spa: ‘Fear is such a strong emotion. We can’t switch it off, but we can learn to be braver.  A lot of being brave is about overcoming fear and making brave decisions. It’s important to enact this habit by making small consistent changes. In the words of Richard Branson, “the brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all”.’

Fiona O’Donnell, blogger and owner at West Cork Fit also inspired the crowd with tips on how to live fearlessly in 2019.

She said: ‘You are the sum of the people you surround yourself with. Surround yourself with those willing to move beyond their fear, who want to see you do the same. Courage is recognising that you are afraid and ploughing on regardless.’

Ciara Lucy, president of Network Ireland West Cork said ’Be Fearless’ was their group motto for the year ahead.

‘We want to encourage our members to do things that scare them every day. Our motto is to take a deep breath and go for it. It might seem scary but don’t let your inner voice stop you … as women we often doubt ourselves … the goal of Network Ireland is to encourage you to step up and be fearless in your daily activity. We are excited to welcome new members on board this year. Joining a new group can be intimidating, but we are committed to providing women of all walks of life a positive, uplifting space to support and challenge each other.’

Network Ireland West Cork holds networking events for members and guests in different locations in West Cork on the last Wednesday of every month.  For further informationemail westcork@networkireland.ie
