Took ill at roadside with suspected heart attack.
A West Cork man in in 50s, who was out cycling at Ballyvelone, Enniskeane, has died.
He was discovered at the side of the road at about 7.30pm on Wednesday evening. A doctor and paramedics who were called to the scene attempted to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead. It is believed that he may have suffered a heart attack.
The man’s body was brought to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be carried out in order to establish the exact cause of death. The county coroner has been notified of the incident and an inquest into the man’s death will take place in due course.
Meanwhile, Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding his discovery at the roadside, but is not believed that the deceased cyclist was in collision with any vehicle.
