A more secure and reliable water supply is on the cards for Baltimore, writes Jackie Keogh.

Uisce Éireann said work at the Beacon road will commence next week. The plan is to replace nearly 300m of an old and problematic cast iron water main as part of UE’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The contractor Ward and Burke Construction Ltd will complete the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, and the project expected to be finalised in December.

Jack Cronin, UE’s programme manager, said: ‘These works will see a significant reduction in the instances of bursts and outages on the network, eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean water lost into the ground.

‘The works,’ he added, ‘will also improve the operation of the network by reducing the need for frequent repairs to aged water mains, resulting in a positive impact on leakage and the daily lives of residents.’

Mr Cronin thanked the local community in advance for their support and patience. To safely and efficiently deliver the project, Mr Cronin said traffic management will be in place in the form of localised and emergency access.

Meanwhile, members of the public can report any leaks in the public water network by contacting Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278 or online at Report a Leak.
