ANGELIQUE Muller didn’t have to look far for inspiration: her clothing design company is located in her own home and that just happens to overlook Brow Head on the Mizen Peninsula where Star Wars – one of the biggest movie franchises of all time – was being made.

Angelique set up her business about six years ago but only started making her cool Star Wars t-shirts when the news broke that Brow Head had been chosen as one of the film locations in Ireland. Straight away, she cranked out a bunch of t-shirts and was delighted when O’Meara’s in Goleen agreed to display them in their pub-front window.

O’Meara’s have also put a Storm Trooper and Obi mannequins in the window and these have become mini Facebook sensations, because every day they are arranged doing different things ... one day it’s pool, the next it’s Tequila shots. The interest has helped to drive business and now Angel Power Designs is receiving steady orders from three main outlets – O’Meara’s, O’Sullivan’s pub in Crookhaven, and the Courtyard craft shop in Schull.

‘I have helpers,’ said Angelique whose children Killian (8) and Annabel (‘almost 6’) are delighted to be in on the action, especially as the crew working on the film put in their very own rush order for 25 t-shirts on Monday.

With hundreds more likely to check out Brow Head now that the location has gained huge publicity, Angelique might be facing another sales spike, but she is used to that because her Mizen Head visitor centre designs, as well as her clothes bearing the Wild Atlantic Way logo, already sell well.

Although she is not a massive Star Wars fan herself, she said: ‘I did see this as a good opportunity to promote the area and to link Brow Head with Star Wars.’

Meanwhile, Star Wars fans should really check O’Meara’s Facebook page. The best posting yet has got to be their take on the ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ slogan. You can almost hear Yoda say: ‘Calm you shall keep, and carry on you must.’

Having designed and printed 250 Star Wars t-shirts from her business at Cloghanaculleen, which is just two miles outside of Goleen, the outlets are well stocked for now, but Angelique is happy to take additional orders. Email: [email protected]. They are €15 each.
