A MAJOR fundraising drive is under way to raise €80,000 for a new jacuzzi at the Wild Atlantic Pool and Fitness Centre in Baltimore.

The existing jacuzzi at the community-run facility is out of service and closed, and the race is on to get a replacement installed.

‘Time is of the essence as the new jacuzzi needs to be installed by October 31st or we lose one of two grant funds we’ve secured,’ said Annette Cadogan, one of the centre’s six volunteer directors. Combined, the grants will provide €60,000, and a sum of €10,000 was also raised from the recent Baltimore to Sherkin swim, but that still leaves the €80,000 shortfall.

As well as a new jacuzzi, new windows will also have to be installed

‘The only way to get the new jacuzzi in is through the windows so they will have to be replaced as well,’ said Annette.

‘Currently there’s a board of plywood covering the jacuzzi so it will be great to have that back up and running and to have members enjoying the views out the large arch windows,’ said Annette.

The centre is well-supported with 140 members said Annette, however running costs are high with bi-monthly energy bills coming in at €7,000 and gas bills up to €3,200.

Among the fundraisers planned is an ‘Over 30s’ disco in the West Cork Hotel on October 18th at 9pm.

A range of exclusive membership offers have also been launched available for a limited time only.

‘These special packages give our community the chance to enjoy outstanding value while directly supporting the continued operation and improvement of your local pool and fitness centre. Every euro raised will go straight into essential upgrades, including the replacement of our jacuzzi and windows, ensuring a safer, more comfortable, and more sustainable facility,’ said Annette.

‘By taking up one of our membership offers, you are not only investing in your own health and wellbeing, but also helping us to protect and develop this vital community hub for Skibbereen, Baltimore, and the wider West Cork area.’
