A presentation of a plaque to mark 30 years of organising and running Garnish Projects Community Employment Scheme in Beara took place recently at the Allihies Copper Mines Museum. Garnish Projects is based at the museum. The 2025 edition of the Great Wild Atlantic Marathon Walks that took place last August raised a record amount of €15,710 for the Courtmacsherry RNLI and since its inception, the annual event has now raised €88,722 over the last nine years. A group recently gathered at An Caipín for the presentation of €22,775, the proceeds from this year’s Bengour harvest tractor, car and bike run. The Kilmacabea Scór na nÓg quiz team of Mary Jo O’Mahony, Heather O’Donovan, Áine Ní Lochlainn and Conor Murphy who came second in the county final held in Páirc Uí Chaoimh being presented with their medals by Tony McAuliffe of the Cork GAA county board.
The gathering was also entertained with an excellent talk on Irish family names from genealogist Margaret Murphy from the Skibbereen Heritage Centre.
