Cadogan's Strand is situated within a cosy inlet at the northeastern tip of Schull Harbour, just about 500 meters east of Schull Town. Schull Town itself is positioned roughly 24 kilometres west of Skibbereen. This beach boasts a southern orientation and features a combination of sandy and shingle terrain, extending for approximately 200 meters in length.

Its unique location at the northern extremity of Schull Harbour provides Cadogan's Strand with excellent shelter, making it a peaceful retreat for beachgoers. At low tide, a small island in the centre of the beach becomes accessible, adding to the beach's charm. Schull Harbour, encompassing an area of approximately 2 square kilometres, is a protected harbour and is a part of the expansive Roaringwater Bay.

To the rear, on the western side of the beach, a sturdy concrete wall and the adjacent public road serve as boundaries. Additionally, there is an amenity park area offering amenities such as picnic spots, a slipway for small watercraft, and ample parking, all conveniently located to the west of the beach.
