DETAILS of the 6th annual De Carrig Cycle Tour were announced during the past week. It has become one of the largest cycle events in Carrigaline in recent years.

This year’s event, organised by the local Carrigdhoun Cycling Club and the Carrigaline Rugby Club, takes place on Saturday, June 9th, commencing at the Carrigaline Soccer Club at Ballea Park with over 400 cyclists expected to take part in either a 120km or 60km route.

The 120km route, commences at the soccer club along Ballea Road at 9.30am sharp, heading off towards Innishannon and Bandon before turning towards the coast into Timoleague, Courtmacsherry and back home via Kinsale and Ballyfeard with a designated stop off point for refreshments at the Timoleague Community Centre.

The less-arduous 60km route starts at 10am and goes through Halfway, Innishannon, Kinsale, Belgooly and Ballyfeard before heading back to the soccer club, with a stop-off point at the Kinsale Yacht Club. The now famous barbecue will await all of the participants upon their arrival back in Ballea Park.

This years beneficiaries, continuing to support the local community, will be the Carrigaline First Responders and the Carrigaline Rugby Club Underage section. The First Responders have provided an excellent service over the past couple of years in erecting special telephone defibrillators around Carrigaline and organised a very successful open day in the Carrigaline Court Hotel recently.

Anyone wishing to take part can register on line with the cost for Cycling Ireland members being €30, non members €35 or you could register on the day for €40. For further details contact 087-2700937 or email [email protected].
