AN award winning West Cork farmer is tickled pink to be involved in a Valentine’s Day fundraiser.

Peter Hynes, (pictured) from Aherla, has pledged to wear a pair of pink and leopard print overalls on February 14th to raise funds for farm accident support network Embrace Farm.

Peter said he would wear the overalls, designed by Grace Roche of Leitrim-based farming clothes company Pretty Bird for a day on his farm if a target of €1,000 is reached.

That’s now a dead cert with over €1,500 already donated by the public ahead of the March 14th deadline.

However, if the sum of €2,500 is hit he’ll go to his co-op in the gear; and if €5,000 is raised he’ll model his look at Corrin Mart, Fermoy.

Peter and his wife Paula are committed fundraisers having raised €15,000 for Breast Cancer Ireland and Aware at an open day on their farm last summer.

Paula, who also works in the hugely successful farm, explained the Valentine’s idea came to them on while on a date night.

‘It all started when we saw a Twitter GIF of a man in a pink leotard and it went from there – pure messing!’ she said.

Peter agreed it started as a joke but developed in association with Grace, Ursula Kikelly of Cormac Tagging and Alma Jordan of AgriKids.

He said: ‘Embrace Farm is a fantastic charity and if you can’t help your own community why should you expect anyone else to?’

His three daughters, Chloe (14); Becky (10) and Georgie (4) along with Paula already wear the pink overalls on the farm.

Paula said: ‘The girls are delighted with the idea – Georgie is looking forward to being twins with daddy!’
