Skibbereen company, the Fresh Fish Deli, has signed an agreement worth €500,000 with SuperValu to supply its fish cakes nationwide.

SKIBBEREEN company, the Fresh Fish Deli, has signed an agreement worth €500,000 with SuperValu to supply its fish cakes nationwide.

The move comes following the company’s participation in the Food Academy programme, which is a joint initiative between Bord Bia, the Local Enterprise Office Network and SuperValu.

Monica Buckley co-founded the Fresh Fish Deli in 2014, and since then has built up a network of local fish suppliers.

As part of the Food Academy programme, the Fresh Fish Deli’s products went on sale in over 40 SuperValu stores in Munster and after proving popular, a nationwide deal with SuperValu’s network of 217 stores was secured.

As a result of the growth in business, the company has moved to a 6,000sq ft production facility in Skibbereen. The move has led to the creation of additional jobs in production and sales, with five new staff hired, bringing the total number employed to 20.

Monica Buckley said: ‘We are delighted to have secured a nationwide deal with SuperValu – it will help take the Fresh Food Deli to the next level.’
