Cyclist dies following collision near Skibbereen

A female cyclist in her late 40s has died following an earlier collision with a car on the N71 earlier today

GARDAÍ have confirmed that a female cyclist in her late 40s has died following a collision with a car at approximately 1pm today on the N71 in the townland of Aghills, Skibbereen.

A female pedal cyclist was involved in a collision with a car. The driver of the car, a woman in her late 50s was uninjured. The body of the deceased was removed to CUH where a post mortem will take place. The deceased has not been named until all family members have been contacted.

Gardaí forensic collision investigators are at the scene and the road remains closed to facilitate the examination of the scene and local traffic diversions are in place.

Gardaí in Skibbereen are appealing to any persons who may have travelled the road this afternoon or who can assist Garda in the investigation to contact them at Clonakilty Garda Station on 023-8821570
