Ring hits bullseye with award

Albert Harte of Annie Mays receiving his Hall of Fame award from Brendan Corcoran.

DAVID Ring of The Arch Bar in Dunmanway was named Senior Player of the Year at the recent West Cork Darts Awards Night held in the Westlodge Hotel, Bantry.

In the past season Ring recorded only one loss to miss out on a clean sweep but did hit many 180s and some high check-outs. He is a popular winner of this award.

On the night many awards were handed out, including the Intermediate Player of the Year award to Johnny O’Shea of JJ Crowleys in Bantry. The Junior Player of the Year is Donagh McCarthy of Annie Mays in Skibbereen and the Novice Player of the Year is Diarmuid Hurley of The Arch Bar. Also, the Ladies Player of the Year is Mary Nugent of the Galley Bar in Clonakilty. The Hall of Fame went to Albert Harte of Annie Mays and Curley Hourihane of the Bantry Inn.

The Senior League was won out by Annie Mays in a very close contest against The Arch Bar. In the Intermediate Cup The Arch beat JJ Crowleys but history did not want to repeat itself and the tables turned for JJs who won the league against The Arch.

In the Junior section May Deanes won the Junior Cup, Annie Mays won the Junior League and Kearneys Well won the Junior Shield. In the Novice section, The Arch Lounge won the Novice Cup, Annie Mays won the Novice League and Kearneys Well won the Novice Shield. In the ladies’ section, The Galley Bar won both the cup and the league and May Deanes won the shield.

The standard of darts is very strong in West Cork at the moment with many players improving noticeably.

The West Cork Darts Organisation would like to thank all the publicans for the continued support, especially all who sponsored finals nights, and also their main sponsors, The Eldon Hotel and the Westlodge Hotel.
