Bash It On takes top prize in Lislee Derby

BY any measure of the yardstick, the Courtmacsherry Strand Races held last Sunday week could compare with the best ever put on by this association in its long history since 2000. 

As they say, a fine day makes all the difference and so it was on Sunday week. 

With over 70 entries for this meeting, it’s indicative of its popularity. Of the eight races on the card, no fewer than six of them had neck-and-neck finishes, with one a dead-heat. 

The racecourse on the sandbank provided an interesting spectacle for the attendance who had a full view of proceedings. 

The winner of the first race, The Strand Plate, was Templehill Tamara while Hello Thunder took the honours in the second race, The Stewards Plate. Pacman was the winner of the Harbour Plate, while the Railway Plate was won by Lakeside Lady and the Extra Mile went to Xantico.  

We were then on to the glamour event of the meeting, The Lislee Derby, and how they strutted it out with victory going to Bash It On. Not Now Ned was a worthy winner of the John Drake Perpetual Memorial Cup and what better way to end the meeting than for the Tyner Syndicate to win the last race of a very successful meeting.
