DARRAGH McElhinney signed off on a medal-laden schools’ career in style.

The Bantry AC runner won the senior 1500m at the All-Ireland Schools’ Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Tullamore to complete his incredible collection.

Darragh, who is currently sitting his Leaving Cert exams at Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí, has now completed the clean sweep of national schools’ titles at all levels, from minor through to senior. The 18-year-old’s former coach Steve Macklin tweeted: ‘the only athlete I believe in Irish schools’ history to win the junior 1500m, U16 mile, intermediate 1500m and senior 1500m titles.’

Darragh won in 3:52.40, just one week after he become the first Irish teenager ever to run under 14 minutes for 5000m when he clocked a new PB of 13:54.10.
