KINSALE golfer John Murphy will return to the scene of his breakthrough victory next month.

Murphy (20) is one of six players named in the Golf Union of Ireland squad for the St Andrews Links Trophy, which takes place at the home of golf from June 7th to 9th.

The University of Louisville student won a playoff for the title in 2018, becoming the third winner from Ireland after Conor O’Rourke in 2016 and Alan Dunbar in 2009.

The Kinsale clubman is joined by Tiarnán McLarnon (Massereene), Ronan Mullarney (Galway), Conor Purcell (Portmarnock), Caolan Rafferty (Dundalk) and James Sugrue (Mallow) for the trip to St Andrews.

Played over 72 holes of stroke play, round one will be played on the Jubilee Course. The Old Course will stage the second round with the top 40 and ties progressing. On the final day, the players face 36 holes on the Old Course.

Recently Murphy was included on the initial 26-strong Britain & Ireland squad for September’s Walker Cup against the USA at Royal Liverpool. The extended panel will be narrowed down to the ten-man Walker Cup team in August.
