Healy is confident she'll be in good shape for the 2019 World University Championships

SPRINT star Phil Healy is confident she’ll be in good shape for the 2019 World University Championships as she steps up her recovery from a fractured foot.

Ireland’s fastest-ever woman is on course to be back running in two weeks, which will give her time to get back up to speed ahead of the championships in Naples in July.

Healy (24) suffered the foot injury four weeks ago.

‘It was just a simple wobble off a step when we were on warm weather training,’ she explains.

‘Everything is progressing really well. I’ll be on the antigravity treadmill at the end of the week and hopefully I’ll be back to normal running two weeks after that, if not before it.

‘The world unis are the main aim and they are eight weeks away at the moment. Once I’m back running I’ll have another five weeks to prepare for them.’

The Ballineen woman is training harder than ever. She’s not running or working on her speed but her coach Shane McCormack has adapted her training to make sure Healy stays in top shape.

The Irish national 100m and 200m record holder had been in sparkling form earlier this year, running 23.04 in the 200m which is just outside her 22.99 national record. Also, Healy hasn’t ruled out competing at the World Athletics Championships in late October/early November.

‘It’s a long season on beyond the World University Championships. The world championship in Doha weren’t on our plans initially this year, but they’re definitely not ruled out as they are end of September,’ says Healy.
