VALLEY Rovers’ Chris O’Leary’s eye-catching performances for UCC as they won the Fitzgibbon Cup have been recognised after he was named in the 2019 Electric Ireland HE GAA Rising Stars’ Hurling Team of the Year.

UCC student O’Leary was the college’s hero in the semi-final win against DCU when he scored a crucial late penalty and finished with an impressive tally of 1-5 from wing back. In the final against the Jamie Wall-trained Mary I, O’Leary was solid again as the Cork college won handily, 2-21 to 0-13.

O’Leary is one of eight UCC hurlers named on the Rising Stars team, along with Niall O’Leary, Eddie Gunning, Paddy O’Loughlin, Conor Browne, Shane Kingston, Shane Conway and Mark Kehoe.

Sigerson Cup winners UCC also dominated the Rising Stars football team with Brian Ó Beaglaoích, Graham O’Sullivan, Daniel O’Brien, Cian Kiely, Padraig Lucey and Sean O’Shea all selected on the final 15.
