ALLIHIES cyclist Neil Hodges continued his good form when he won the Tom Sheehan Memorial A3 and Junior Race run over five laps of a 20km circuit near Carrick on Suir on St Patrick’s Day.

The Beara man had finished second in his opening race of the season in Limerick but he went one better in Tipperary with an impressive display. Sam Bennett is a previous winner of this race.

Hodges, cycling for the Killarney Cycling Club, broke away with four other riders on the last lap and coming into the steep uphill finish, he powered away from the rest and won by a few bike lengths.

The points won in this race added to his finish in Limerick means he has 19 points from those two races so will move up to the A2 race license. His next race will be with the A1 and A2 riders so it will be longer, faster and more challenging, but he has shown good form so far this season.

It continues on from the end of last season when Hodges won the end-of-season Charleville Two-Day stage race, which ran over two days and three stages.
