CLONAKILTY and Cork defender Liam O’Donovan is facing up to eight weeks on the sideline after he injured his knee in the county’s league loss to Clare on Sunday.
The former Cork U20 captain was forced off during the second half of the defeat to Clare in Cusack Park and it has since emerged, according to the42.ie, that the Clon man has damaged his collateral medial ligament.
It means that he is facing from six to eight weeks out of action.
Not only is O’Donovan likely to miss the rest of Cork’s Division 2 campaign seeing as the final league game against Armagh is on March 24th, but he will also miss UCC’s Sigerson Cup semi-final against NUIG this Sunday while he will be in a race against time to be back for Clon’s Cork SFC round one derby against Newcestown, which is pencilled in for April 6th in Dunmanway.
The injury is a setback for O’Donovan who is in his first year with the Cork senior panel. The former inter-county minor made his league debut against Fermanagh and featured against both Kildare and Clare before going off injured in the latter.
