On your marks, get set, go, for Rosscarbery 5k

NOW in its eighth year, the annual Rosscarbery Steam Engine 5km Fun Run will take place on Saturday, October 6th at 5pm.

The run is named in honour of the one-time Irish and USA champion 400m champion runner TJ O’Mahony, aka The Steam Engine, and is a 5km (3.1 miles in total) double circuit of the scenic lagoon in Rosscarbery. The race has full AAI permit. This race has been growing in popularity every year and the organisers hope that people will again come out and support CoAction West Cork, this year’s chosen charity.

CoAction provides services to both children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism. CoAction was founded by parents and friends in Bantry in 1974, to ensure that children with an intellectual disability, who were travelling to Cork for their education, could receive the same in their own community.  

Registration costs just €10 for adults and €5 for children aged between 12 and 16 years. For safety reasons, U12s have to be accompanied by an adult. 

Runners, walkers and families alike are all welcome and there will be music in the square for the duration. Refreshments will be available in the social centre afterwards.

Registration is on the day from 3.30pm at the Social Services Centre directly behind the Londis Shop at the corner of Rosscarbery Square. The event will start at 5pm from the main square in the centre of the town.
