Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses following a robbery incident last Tuesday in Macroom.

Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses following a robbery incident last Tuesday in Macroom.

Shortly before 3pm, two ladies (mid 60s and early 90s) were out walking in the Castlegrounds, Macroom, when they were both knocked to the ground and had a handbag stolen by two men.

The men then left the scene, into Macroom Golf club and out onto the road at Sleeven Upper. The woman in her 90s was brought to Cork University Hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged.

The two suspects are described as both being tall, thin and in their late teens/early 20s.

Speaking at Macroom Garda Station today, Supt Joseph Moore said: ‘We are appealing for anyone who was in the Castlegrounds in Macroom, Macroom Golf Club or Sleeven Upper, and who may have seen the two men to get in touch. We are also appealing to any drivers who were in the area at the time and who have dashcam footage.’

Supt Moore added: ‘This incident happened during the day in a very public area so we are asking people who may have witnessed anything, no matter how insignificant they think it is, to contact us.’

Gardaí can be contacted at Macroom Garda Station on 026 20590, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
