A BANDON business has been praised by parents for offering their premises to students to sit and wait while waiting to be collected after school.

Kevin O’Leary’s Circle K on New Road announced the initiative last Tuesday, as students returned to the four secondary schools in the town after the summer break.

Speaking to The Southern Star, store manager Marretta Atkinson said she just wants parents and their children to know that the space is available if they need it.

‘As a team here we thought it would be a great idea that if students can’t be picked up or have missed their lift, then they can stay in the shop until they are collected.’

‘They can come in and charge their phones if they need to or we can ring their parents for them and can even give them a cup of tea if they need it. It just offers them a safe place to sit and wait.’

With the recent problems securing seats on some schoolbus routes in Bandon, many students are left relying on their parents to be dropped and collected into Bandon, which can involve waiting around.

‘We put this up last year but maybe parents weren’t aware of it,  so we want to publicise it again. Even if they only come in and sit in the seating area, they’re welcome to do that,’ added Marretta.

She said the feedback from people so far has been extremely positive.
