LETTER: Your vein-y legs are putting us off our food

SIR – It is the height of summer. The sun comes out, the temperature rises, it is to be enjoyed, the world looks a better place on a fine summer day.

But not everything is improved.

So I make a plea: it would be much appreciated if middle-aged and elderly men would refrain from wearing shorts. Legs do not improve with age, this is especially so with regard to appearance.

White, hairy, boney legs, often generously endowed with varicose veins, are not a pretty sight. People enjoying a meal at a pavement café have been known to experience a complete loss of appetite.

So please, if tempted, take a look in the mirror before going out. You may well decide that the wearing of shorts is best left to the younger generation.
