TWO new 8,500 litre water tankers, to be stationed in Bandon and Bantry, will provide vital support for crews attending emergencies.
In 2018, Cork county crews responded to 3,755 emergencies and equipment such as these new tankers are a welcome boost to resources.
Specifically, the water tankers will improve fire fighting services responding to fires in areas which do not have an existing hydrant supply.
Chief Executive of Cork County Council Tim Lucey highlighted the importance of such equipment to the Council’s Fire Service and said: ‘These tankers will greatly improve our ability to deal with incidents where water resources are an issue as they will provide additional water carrying and pumping capacity.’
County Mayor, Cllr. Christopher O’Sullivan added: ‘Our fire-fighters are highly respected and admired for their dedication to the people of Cork.’
