LATEST: Man in court charged with murder of West Cork woman

LATEST: A 46-year-old man has been charged at Castlebar District Court with the murder of West Cork native Valerie French Kilroy.

At a special sitting of Castlebar District Court this (Sunday) afternoon James Kilroy (46) of Kilbree Lower, Westport, Co Mayo, was charged with the murder of Valerie French Kilroy,  a native of Leap in West Cork, whose body was found at her home on Friday.

The defendant was remanded in custody to Harristown District Court on Friday next, June 21st. Judge Fiona Lydon directed that Mr Kilroy receive medical attention to include a psychiatric evaluation.

The deceased was aged 41. She she worked as an occupational therapist with the HSE.

The Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have been in the area between the hours of midday on Thursday, June 13th, and midday on Friday 14th, who may have information, to contact the incident room at Castlebar Garda Station on 094-9038200, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
