Roddy Doyle's Rosie a highlight of festival

THE award-winning film Rosie, written by Roddy Doyle, will be screened at the Fastnet Film Festival next month in Schull. 

Directed by Paddy Breathnach and based on Doyle’s screenplay, the story follows a young family who find themselves homeless and living in hotels. 

Shot in and around Dublin, the film stars Sarah Greene and Moe Dunford, (Rosie and John Paul), the parents of four young children. When their landlord sells their home, they are thrust into a situation they never anticipated. 

The film follows the family as they try desperately to find places to stay, and examines the impact of the situation on them and their children.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Paddy Breathnach, Roddy Doyle and Moe Dunford.

The screening is part of the 11th Fastnet Film Festival which runs from Wednesday May 22nd to Sunday May 26th with 13 feature films being screened, along with workshops and seminars in pop-up cinemas in the ‘village with no cinema’. 

‘One of our most popular events is the Long Island Cinema, the most isolated cinema in Ireland,’ said festival director Hilary McCarthy.

‘Cinema goers take the 10 minute ferry ride to Long Island, followed by a two-minute walk to the Ferryman’s house. The bedroom cinema seats 24.’ The festival also includes the filmmker’s hub, live music, parties, drama, movie quiz and café viewing all over town.
