THE chief executive of Ludgate in Skibbereen took part in a three-week prestigious US government programme that explores global entrepreneurship.

The International Visitor Leadership Programme is the US State Department’s premier programme, and only one place is offered to each country each year. Previous attendees have included Mary Robinson and Enda Kenny and this year it went to Ludgate’s Adrienne Harrington.

The programme is exploring the area of entrepreneurship in the US, looking at supporting global entrepreneurship and closer transatlantic economic ties. While in the US, Adrienne is visiting Washington DC; Raleigh, North Carolina; Sacramento; San Antonio and Austin in Texas.

Speaking from Sacramento in California, Adrienne said: ‘It is interesting to see the American culture of entrepreneurship, and with Ludgate about to move to a new phase of development, I am looking at what initiatives and ideas we could transfer to West Cork.’

She added: ‘It has given me an unrivalled opportunity to see at firsthand how business and policy strategies are used to promote entrepreneurship and innovation here in the States.’
