Castletownbere's tidy towns committee has called on all candidates in Cork South West not to put up election posters in their area.

CASTLETOWNBERE’S tidy towns committee has called on all candidates in Cork South West not to put up election posters in their area.

The letter was issued after the existing councillors arrived at ‘a gentleman’s agreement’ at a West Cork Municipal District meeting not to put up election posters within the 50km limit of all West Cork towns and villages. Rosscarbery Tidy Towns got the ball rolling when, five years ago, they asked the candidates not to litter their streetlamps with the posters during the judging period.

Clonakilty followed suit and now Castletownbere has added its voice and called on existing and new candidates to keep West Cork’s towns and villages looking pristine before and after the elections.
