A Skibbereen auctioneer is the first in Ireland to be taking an exhibition featuring the works of some of the best Irish and international artists to the United States.
A SKIBBEREEN auctioneer is the first in Ireland to be taking an exhibition featuring the works of some of the best Irish and international artists to the United States.
Morgan O’Driscoll will be showing the work of 91 artists in 161 lots in Manhattan on April 2nd and 3rd. The exhibition will also travel to London, where it will go on show for three days on April 14th, 15th and 16th before returning home to Skibbereen April 20th-April 22nd.
The final leg of the tour will be the RDS in Dublin. There, the artworks can be viewed over a four-day period from April 26th to 29th before bids commence at 6pm on Monday April 29th.
Morgan, an auctioneer who has made a name for himself in the world of fine art said: ‘This is something I have always wanted to do. By taking the work to America, London, Skibbereen and Dublin, we are bringing the work of these artists to a wider international audience.’
Morgan confirmed that no other auctioneer has ever attempted anything like this and admitted: ‘The logistics are challenging but it will be exciting and new.’
Among the many gems in the exhibition is an oil painting of a spring tide in Schull by Jack B Yeats. Other highlights include a superb head study by leading contemporary Irish Painter, Diana Copperwhite, a rare Harry Kernoff study of James Joyce, and a jewel-like painting of Tangier in the evening light by Sir John Lavery. West Cork will also be represented wth the work of William Crozier and Sherkin Island’s Majella O’Neill Collins.
