‘MICHAEL J’ the actor went back to the future and now Michael J the fox is hoping to return to the wild.

The young fox, affectionately named after the Hollywood star by Southern Star staff, was struck blind after being hit on a busy Leap to Glandore road in recent weeks.

He was rescued by two local men, Star employee Eoghan Daly and local man Paudie O’Shea, after they saw him crouched and clearly suffering by the roadside.

Paudie brought him to Fachtna Collins’ veterinary practice in Bantry the next day, where he’s since been in the excellent care of Jennifer Carroll and has recovered well. A few days after his rescue, his eyesight began to improve and things started to look up for the frightened fox.

Jennifer said that he’ll shortly travel to the Kildare Animal Foundation Welfare Unit for further rehabilitation and aftercare, but that he’ll hopefully make a full recovery.

Paudie said he was delighted with the happy ending.

‘It’s terrific that all our efforts paid off. I’m delighted that he’ll be hopefully returning to his natural habitat,’ added Paudie.
