AN INTIMATE documentary on Ed Sheeran, made by three past pupils of Schull Community College (SCC), will be screened at May’s Fastnet Film Festival, and the trio will also attend themselves.

Songwriter is the creation of Murray Cummings (director), Billy Cummings, (second unit director) and William Bean, animator.

Murray is also Ed’s second cousin. The three proud past pupils of SCC will also take part in a post-screening Q&A at the festival which will run from Wednesday May 22nd to Sunday May 26th in the village of Schull.

Songwriter  is described as a personal look at the writing process of Sheeran and details the creation of his third studio album Divide. It gives an authentic insight into the star’s life through never-before-seen home videos.

Murray travelled extensively with his cousin and managed to capture him in the act of writing songs. The viewer gains an insight into the intense, collaborative process that has produced some of Sheeran’s biggest hits. Murray explains: ‘I decided to make something different. I wasn’t going to show fame. I didn’t want paparazzi, screaming fans or big stadiums. I didn’t want to have sit-down interviews because I didn’t want to tell the audience how something came to be, I just wanted to show them. And I wanted the focus to be the songwriting.’

Also confirmed for the 11th Fastnet Film Festival is writer Roddy Doyle who will take part in several events, including a panel discussion after the screening of the movie Rosie.

Doyle’s latest script for Rosie, directed by Paddy Breathnach, is about a mother trying to protect her family after their landlord sells their rented home and they become homeless and living in hotels.
