THE Enabling Student Entrepreneurship programme for Further Education students at the West Cork Campus recently hosted a ‘business mentor’.

The programme has been designed to introduce students to the concept of starting their own business with a practical, hands-on learning experience that explores the building blocks of starting an enterprise.

Students who participate in the programme come from a cross-section of the courses being run in the college.

They were recently visited by Mike Palmer – head of marketing at nearby technology firm Spearline, who acted as their business mentor for the day.

They also benefitted from the expertise of Liz McAvoy and Aoife McAuliffe of Junior Achievement Ireland as well as guest speaker from local businesses including Glenilen Farm and Designs Skibbereen.

The students are given the opportunity to work in teams to create, develop, market and trade a business idea. The programme culminates with a showcase of student enterprise prototypes in February.
