The Irish Coast Guard has called on the public and mariners to take care this weekend following the severe weather warning issued by Met Éireann on Wednesday.

It's set to get very windy on Friday with the possibilty of storm-force winds in coastal areas.

In a statement from the Irish Coast Guard they said they were: 'asking users of smaller vessels to pay particular attention to the weather warnings and for the general public to be mindful of the risks on exposed areas in particular piers, walkways and cliff areas'.

The Coast Guard also reminded recreational walkers to 'stay safe, stay high, stay dry' as sudden wind gusts or waves can result in serious accidents.
