LETTER: FF should cease its support of Varadkar

SIR – There is in my mind no difference between ‘Fianna’ Gael and Fianna Fáil. What we have seen in recent years is a collusion between both parties to keep power between themselves at all costs. Fianna Fáil may not be in government but they allow the government to remain in power. 

This arrangement shows that in all reality there is no ideological difference between the parties and they should be seen as one by the citizens of Ireland. 

Leo Varadkar, TD, is a disgrace; the very idea that he is Taoiseach of this country is repugnant to me given his recent statements on the violent eviction and alleged assault of Irish citizens in rural Roscommon by people masquerading as private security. 

He did not show any concern for the original victims of this assault nor of the retired Garda that came to assist them who was also assaulted. He did not show concern to the family evicted the week before Christmas, to be left destitute and homeless in the middle of winter, or the manner in which they were evicted. 

If Fianna Fail continues to support him in office in light of this, then they, as a political party, have truly lost what was left of their soul and they are no longer in touch with reality or fit for purpose. 

Both parties should merge together as one and be done with it. 

It appears that the political establishment in Ireland would prefer to see homes lie empty in rural Ireland, with their occupants evicted and have them homeless adding to the national homeless crisis throughout Ireland.
