THE death has taken place of Carolyn Murphy, a friend and former personal assistant to the late actress Maureen O'Hara.

THE death has taken place of Carolyn Murphy, a friend and former personal assistant to the late actress Maureen O'Hara.

Carolyn passed away on Sunday after a lengthy battle with cancer.

In a candid interview with our reporter Jackie Keogh last June, Carolyn spoke about her terminal diagnosis.

‘I am terminal, but instead of being sick, and on the couch, I am active,’ said Carolyn.

She said she was hoping to be around for her husband Bill's 80th next April.

But, having been told then that she had about nine months to live, she added that she had been busy getting things in order. ‘I am at peace with it,’ she said, ‘and I appreciate my doctor’s honesty.’

Carolyn, living at Dromkeal in Ballylickey, had worked closely with the late Hollywood actress O'Hara and the two were fast friends for many years.

Carolyn will repose in Coakley's Funeral Home, Chapel Street, Bantry tomorrow, followed by removal at 8pm to St. Joseph’s Church, Coomhola. Requiem Mass on Thursday is at 12 noon followed by burial in Kilmacomogue Cemetery.

Family flowers only. Donations in lieu, if desired, to Cancer Connect, Main St, Bantry or Marymount Hospice, Curraheen, Cork.
