A BANDON music fan got the surprise of her life when one of her favourite singers, Skibbereen’s Brian Deady turned up in her kitchen.

And it was all thanks to her uncle Robert Belcher, who helped organise the surprise visit for his niece Jennifer Payne who is a wheelchair user.

‘I work at Kelleher’s Tyres Depot in Bandon and I’ve met Brian there a few times and we’ve always had good chats. I had told him about my niece Jennifer who is a big fan of his and he said he would set a day to take time out to visit her at her home with her parents Sammy and Assumpta,’ Robert told The Southern Star.

‘That day turned out to be last Friday and I arranged Brian’s visit and brought along my children and my mother Kim for the surprise visit. He gave Jennifer flowers, chocolates, signed t-shirts and CD’s much to her delight.’

There was even time for a song as Brian led Jennifer and her cousins to sing his current hit ‘9 Cents & 2 Dollars’ at the kitchen table. And he even sang a few lines from a Nathan Carter song because he knew Jennifer is also a  fan of his.

Brian – who released his album Black Diamond in September and recently played a sold-out Cork Opera House as part of the Cork Guinness Jazz Festival – also enjoyed the visit which will leave a lasting mark on Jennifer as well as the extended family.

‘My whole family was on a high after his visit and to say I’m grateful would be a massive understatement,’ said Robert. ‘I can’t thank Brian enough for the smile he put on Jennifer’s face. It means the world to us and he will be talked about for years by our family,’ added Robert.
