Excitement is building with just days to go to the premiere of the much-anticipated OsKaRs by Bantry Blues. 

EXCITEMENT is building with just days to go to the premiere of the much-anticipated OsKaRs by Bantry Blues. 

This major fundraising event for the GAA Club takes place at The Maritime Hotel on Friday and Saturday, November 16th and 17th, and audiences will enjoy seven short films starring more than 60 local actors.

Each film is sponsored by local businesses and The Southern Star is a media partner.

The Snapper is sponsored by The Boston Bar; Man About Dog is sponsored by The Quay’s Bar, The Hangover is sponsored by Bantry Bath & Tile, Castaway is sponsored by Zenith Energy and Guinness;  The Field is  sponsored by The Bank House, Whiddy Island, Bridesmaids is sponsored by Bantry Tyre Centre and Fr Ted is sponsored by Bantry Skip Hire and Kelly & Co Furniture.

Over the two nights, the OsKaRs will be presented in eight different categories: Best Film sponsored by O’Keefe’s SuperValu; Best Actor is sponsored by Rowa; Best Actress is sponsored by Laide & O’Brien; Best Supporting Actor is sponsored by Bantry Bay Hotel & The Brick Oven; Best Supporting Actress is sponsored by JJ Crowley’s Bar;  Best Producer is  sponsored by Murnane & O’Shea; Highest Grossing Film is sponsored by Bantry Harbour Mussels and Best Costume is sponsored by Maxol Service Station.

A panel of judges will be tasked with deciding the stand-out performances on the night, while audience members will have an opportunity to vote for their favourite film. Judges include Southern Star journalist Jackie Keogh; Mary Delaney, who most recently worked on the production of Carmel Winter’s award-winning Float Like A Butterfly and GAA legend  Graham Canty, who will be joined by his team mate, Donncha O’Connor.

Funds raised will go towards the redevelopment of the GAA grounds at Wolfe Tone Park.  

Club chairman Pat Joe Connolly has thanked the people of Bantry and the local businesses for their support, especially the main sponsor, Val Whooley Plant Hire.

Tickets will go on sale this Friday November 9th at 8pm at The Quay’s.
