The journey on the ferry from Schull to Cape Clear just got a whole lot quicker, with the arrival of a new faster ferry.

THE journey on the ferry from Schull to Cape Clear just got a whole lot quicker, with the arrival this week of a new faster ferry.

The new licence will allow the Cape Clear ferry, the Dún na Séad II, to carry 97 passengers and will make the trip from Schull to Cape Clear in 25 minutes.

‘Normally we would take 65 passengers on a 45-minute transit to and from Cape Clear,’ Karen Cottrell told The Southern Star. ‘We can now accommodate more coach tours and more cargo as well. From this year as well, we accept the Irish free travel pass until the end of the season.’

There will also be an increase in the number of passengers that can avail of the iconic Fastnet tour from Schull. The Dún na Séad II features high quality passenger accommodation, airline-style seating, large windows, a comfortable saloon, and air conditioning. The new ferry also has a crane and cargo capacity of six tons.

The sailing schedule will remain the same and Cape Clear Ferries says this investment confirms its commitment to providing the service.
