BREAKING: Man dies and partner injured in serious assault at Ballincollig house

Gardaí in Gurranabraher are investigating serious assaults after which a man died and his partner was injured shortly after 3 o'clock this morning when armed men broke into their house in Ballincollig.

A man has died and a woman was seriously injured in an attack at their home in Ballincollig in the early hours of this (Sunday) morning.

Gardaí in Gurranabraher are investigating the serious assaults that occurred shortly after 3am when a number of men with weapons went into the injured parties’ house and seriously assaulted the man and his partner. The assailants then left the house, which is currently preserved for a technical examination.

The injured parties were taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment. The male passed away this morning as a result of his injuries, while those of his partner – a female in her 30s – are not believed to be life-threatening. A post-mortem on the deceased will be carried out later.

There was another adult female (early 30s) and two children under six years in the house at the time of the incident and they were uninjured.

Shortly after the attack, a car was found burnt out a number of kilometres away in Waterfall and this scene is also being preserved for a technical examination.
