THE inaugural Courmacsherry Seafood Festival takes place this weekend.

Part of a number of events to mark the Seven Heads peninsula’s inclusion in the Wild Atlantic Way, after a concerted campaign, the festival is being promoted by the Seven Heads Peninsula Tourism Group.

This new event, which kicks off on Sunday, is being sponsored by Bórd Iascaigh Mhara, Ireland’s Seafood Development Agency. It begins at noon on Sunday and for some five hours will showcase the culinary talents and rich fishing heritage of the region.

The organisers have extended an open invitation to this free event while local food producers and retailers keen on showcasing their produce are also invited to set up a stall at the event.

The MasterChef Ireland 2014 winner, local resident Diana Dodog, hopes the festival will become an annual event. ‘Living by the sea and seeing the selection of fish around our shores is incredible,’ she said. ‘The quality and range of wild seafood is so supreme that even the French and Spanish are paying top prices for it.’
