Garda Chief Supt Con Cadogan of West Cork Division has told The Southern Star that a good system is in place in his division for the monitoring of people who are registered as sex offenders.

FOLLOWING reported sightings in West Cork of two known and dangerous child sex offenders from Northern Ireland, Garda Chief Supt Con Cadogan of West Cork Division has told The Southern Star that a good system is in place in his division for the monitoring of people who are registered as sex offenders.

‘I would like to re-assure people that we have a very strict process in place in dealing with those on the sex offenders list, and if they breach the conditions under the register, they are back before the courts,’ said Chief Supt Cadogan.

‘Every division has a number of people registered as sex offenders and they are monitored very closely and if they move into, or out of, West Cork, there is an obligation on them to let us know.’

It had been reported earlier this week that James White (48) and Jason Lydiard (26), who are both convicted sex offenders, were seen in the West Cork area.

Although they served prison sentences in Northern Ireland, the two men are still required by law to inform gardaí here of their whereabouts. But it now appears that they did not.

James White, who has 62 previous convictions, was jailed here in 1998 on two counts of buggery and five charges of sexual assault on a teenage boy in Co Meath.

While Jason Lydiard, who has nine previous convictions for sexual assault and assault causing harm, was freed from jail in the North earlier this year, after finishing a seven-month sentence for ignoring a court order banning him from online dating sites.
