A BROTHER and sister team from County Kildare have added Cork to their impressive list of travel guides.

Gregory and Audrey Bracken have published guides to Dublin, London, Paris, Bangkok, Hong Kong and more, but their latest by The Collins Press is entitled Cork Strolls – Exploring Cork’s Architectural Treasures.

Gregory has a PhD in architecture and Audrey has a BA in English, which is what makes them a perfect combination to appreciate and describe some of Cork’s finest attributes.

As the second largest city in the country, and home to 120,000 people, Cork has long been an important hub for international trade, including lucrative transatlantic routes.

Dublin Strolls was a great success, so the duo hope that the Cork edition will find its market too. Striking hand-drawn illustrations are used to depict some of the most beautiful aspects of the city from the Cathedral of St Mary and St Anne in Shandon and to the west, St Vincent’s in Sunday’s Well.

In between they take in Ireland’s tallest building, the Elysian, the hotel where Michael Collins spent his last night, and other classic sights such as the English Market, St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, and the old Beamish and Crawford. There are also strolls covering outlying attractions like Fota House and Blarney Castle, as well as the neighbouring seaside towns of Cobh and Kinsale.
