WEST Cork isn’t short of waterfront properties, but gems like Otterbank don’t come along too often.

Not surprisingly there’s been strong international interest in this waterfront residence, which is located just outside Beara and is on the market with Sherry FitzGerald for €1.65m.

It’s a hefty asking price, but it’s almost a bargain compared to its original asking price of €4m, and more recently €2m.

Designed by eco-architect Tony Cohu, the four-bed dormer house was built in 2005 and extends over 4,476 sq ft.

It was designed to maximise views of the Sheep’s Head peninsula, Bere Island and the Atlantic Ocean, and there’s lots of stand-out features, including a custom-made wrought iron winding staircase.

The interior is bursting with personality and originality and the entrance brings you straight into the lounge area which encapsulates the panoramic and breath-taking sea views.

There is also a lounge, which opens out onto the most amazing terraces that overlooks the water, perfect for alfresco dining, with a formal dining room and upstairs library.

But it’s perhaps outside that the real adventure begins, with seven acres of secluded grounds with a decking area, boat shed and picnic cabin, as well as a hugely attractive private and sheltered mooring.
