A SKIBBEREEN hair stylist who opened her own business in the depths of the recession has picked up her third industry award in the space of 12 months.

Simone Best was honoured for her entrepreneurial skills at the Tia Maria Hair and Beauty Awards at the Clayton Hotels Silversprings, just a few short months after her salon in Blackrock was named ‘Best Salon in Cork’ at the Cork Business Awards.

Simone is the daughter of well-known local stylists Peter and Mona Best.

She only took up hairdressing after first exploring the world of fashion in London.

When Simone opened her salon at the start of the recession people told her she was mad, but she knew it was where her real passion lay.

The citation presented to her at the Tia Maria HiStyle awards honoured her for providing ‘a superb service, frank honesty, and the best homecare advice, all in the comfort of a five-star salon.’

But Simone wasn’t the only hair stylist from West Cork to take home a top award.

Hair by Aisling Hurley of Drinagh was also honoured with the Best Rural Salon award.
