Goleen maritime lawyer Michael Kingston has been officially nominated by Iceland as a United Nations International Maritime Organisation (UN IMO) ambassador

GOLEEN maritime lawyer Michael Kingston has been officially nominated by Iceland as a United Nations International Maritime Organisation (UN IMO) ambassador.

Endorsed by the IMO maritime director, this role means Mr Kingston, if confirmed, will officially represent the IMO on world business, particularly on the ratification of the worldwide ‘Cape Town Agreement’ for fishing boat safety, a matter he is already working on with the IMO and the Arctic States.

If confirmed in the position, Mr Kingston says he would be keen to see the Cape Town Agreement ratified by Ireland, which has not yet ratified it.

Mr Kingston, whose father Tim died in the Whiddy oil tragedy in 1979, was named Lloyds Maritime Lawyer of the Year in 2014.
