LOCAL businesses who want to cement links with industry partners in China have been invited to join a trade delegation which is visiting the Asia country later this year.

Staff members and councillors representating Cork County Council are planning a visit to Jiangsu.

Jiangsu is located on the eastern coast of China, has a population of 80 million and the second highest GDP of the Chinese provinces with a gross domestic product in excess of US trillion per annum.

It is home to many of the world’s leading exporters of electronic equipment, chemicals and textile and has been China’s largest recipient of foreign direct investment since 2006.

Cork County Council established a partnership agreement with Jiangsu in November 2017 and is currently organising a trade visit to Jiangsu later this year.  The visit will include business matching, business to business meetings, business to consumer meetings and networking opportunities for participating companies. In association with the Consulate General of Ireland in Shanghai, Jiangsu Foreign Affairs Office, IDA Ireland and Enterprise Ireland, Cork County Council is inviting expressions of interest from organisations to participate in this visit.

Companies wishing to join the mission should be looking to initiate, develop and expand export relationships in the Chinese market.

Speaking of the opportunity, chief executive of Cork County Council Tim Lucey noted the potential available for companies who wish to enter or expand with the Chinese market.

‘This mission presents unique opportunities and benefits to participants including access to key economic and government decision-makers, in-market intelligence, unparalleled networking opportunities, business-to-business meetings with potential partners and an opportunity to seek valuable market insight exposing your business to new market opportunities,’ he said.

County mayor Cllr Patrick Gerard Murphy went on to say  that Cork and Jiangsu are working together to promote economic links between our two regions and this trade mission presents a real prospect for our businesses.

The mission is focusing on export ready businesses. Participation is open to all interested parties and is not sector-specific.

Expressions of Interest should be submitted to John Forde at Cork County Council, County Hall, Cork before 4pm on Friday August 3rd.
